Choose the post shape before styling
Instagram displays images in different aspect ratios depending on the placement. A square feed post, a taller portrait post, and a full-screen Story are not interchangeable. Choosing the frame first prevents the platform from making an unexpected crop later.
The page opens with square 1080 × 1080 selected. You can switch to a portrait, Story, or custom size after choosing an image.
Fit or fill the Instagram frame
Use Fit entire image when the complete composition must remain visible. It may leave empty space around the photo. Use Fill and crop center when the frame must be completely covered, then check that important content has not been cut off.
Keep text and faces away from the edges
Apps can overlay interface elements and may crop previews. Keep captions and faces slightly inside the safe area. A 1080-pixel-wide file also gives the platform enough resolution for a crisp feed display.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Instagram post size?
A 1080 × 1080 square is a practical feed default. Portrait posts often start at 1080 × 1350.
Will the file stay private?
Yes. Resizing is performed in your browser and the image is not uploaded.
Why does my image have blank edges?
The Fit entire image mode preserves the full source and centers it inside the selected frame.
