A better fit for larger previews
Two hundred kilobytes leaves room for useful detail in a profile photo, product picture, scanned document preview, or job-application image. It is a practical compromise when the destination enforces a strict cap but still displays the result at a meaningful size.
You can keep a longer image edge than with the 20 or 50 KB presets. The encoder searches for a quality level that fits rather than applying one fixed setting to every photo.
Choose the right source image
Start with the image you actually want to submit, not a screenshot of another editor. Recompressing an already compressed file can add softness and will not recover detail.
- Use the original photo when possible.
- Crop to the required aspect ratio before targeting the file size.
- Compare the downloaded result at the size it will actually be displayed.
When a 200 KB result is still too large
The compressor may report a result above the requested size only when it has exhausted its practical quality and scaling steps. In that case, reduce the maximum long edge manually, crop more aggressively, or choose WebP instead of JPEG.
Frequently asked questions
Can the output remain high resolution?
Sometimes, depending on detail. At 200 KB, simple images can retain more dimensions than complex photos.
Can I use this for scanned documents?
Yes, but a scan with dense text may become hard to read at a small size. Test the downloaded copy before submitting.
Is anything stored on a server?
No. The image processing runs in your browser.
