How photo metadata is removed
Most hidden information is stored in metadata containers attached to an image file. This tool does not simply erase selected tags. It decodes the visible pixels and writes a new image file from scratch. The new encoder output does not carry the source image’s EXIF block.
The process is useful before posting a photo publicly, sending a picture to a buyer, attaching a screenshot to a support request, or sharing work with a client. The visible image remains, but metadata from the original file is discarded.
Why use a browser-local cleaner?
Uploading a private photo to remove its private metadata can defeat the purpose. This tool uses the browser canvas to decode and re-encode the image on your device. There is no server-side image copy created by this page.
Frequently asked questions
Does JPEG re-encoding reduce quality?
Slightly. The tool uses high quality for the clean copy, but repeated JPEG encoding can still introduce small changes. Always keep the original file.
Will PNG preserve transparency?
Yes. WebP and PNG can retain transparent pixels. JPEG fills transparent areas with white.
Are animated images supported?
GIF input is clean-encoded from its first visible frame. Animation is not preserved in this tool.
